  3. The following form is the second portion of the application for employment with the Hall County Sheriff's Office. Please read each section completely and complete each required field (*) before submitting.

  5. All applicants must complete the entrance exam process listed below prior to proceeding with the application process. However, Georgia Basic Law Enforcement Certified officers are exempt from testing and may proceed to the next section.

    All applicants who are NON-P.O.S.T. CERTIFIED must achieve a passing score on one of the required exams below. The Compass and Asset exams are given by Georgia Colleges and Technical Schools. All applicants must successfully pass and show proof of passing scores prior to returning a completed application and being considered for employment. Please see the chart below for minimum passing score requirements as well as other acceptable standardized test scores:

  11. Below is an application for employment with Hall County Government in LAW ENFORCEMENT. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment.

    The following documentation must be submitted with your application:

    Note - originals may be provided but will not be returned. A copy or photocopy is sufficient, although applicants are encouraged to upload documentation below.

    Applicants are required to meet entry level P.O.S.T Testing Requirements and provide proof of score or show current certification documentation before the application is processed.

    Once you have submitted your application it will be sent to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office for review. The review process is lengthy and takes several weeks. If you are selected for the interview process, you will be contacted via telephone call. If you are not contacted, your application will be kept on file in the Human Resources Department for one (1) year.

    The Hall County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a pre-employment Background Investigation of applicants. The investigation will include viewing records concerning criminal and driver histories, if any, contacting past employers and personal references as listed on your application, and contacts with other parties that might arise from the investigation to confirm suitability for employment.

    Applicants considered for employment are required to submit to a pre-employment Polygraph or Voice Stress Analysis, and post-offer Health Screening, Psychological Assessment, and Physical Agility Skills Testing at the request and expense of Hall County Government by a provider of our choosing. Applicants considered for employment may also be required to submit to Firearms Testing, dependent upon the position being applied for. Polygraph/voice stress questions may be drawn from the following areas:

  19. Employment in law enforcement agencies involves public trust. Only those persons whose conduct, character and behavior does not discredit themselves or the Hall County Sheriff’s Office will be employed. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a thorough background investigation on applicants considered for employment. The process will address the integrity, ethical conduct, honesty, prejudices, and past behavior of applicants. The background investigation will include, but is not limited to the following: check of applicant’s work history, driver history, credit history, polygraph examination, and references. Applicants must also submit to an interview with agency staff, a physical exam and drug screen, a physical agility skills test, a polygraph or voice stress test, and a psychological exam. While we review much information and consider the circumstances in many areas regarding an applicant's background, the following standards are among those that will automatically disqualify or prohibit an applicant from consideration. This list is not all inclusive and other information or facts revealed in the background investigation may also be sufficient to disqualify an applicant.

    Applicant will be disqualified on the following:

    1. Intentionally falsifying, misrepresenting, or omitting pertinent information while completing the employment application, preliminary interview questionnaires, or any other pre-employment document(s).

    2. Deliberately making inaccurate, misleading, false, or false statements during the employment process.

    3. Poor management of personal finances (within the past 5 years). Debts, pending civil suits, garnishments, dispossessory warrants, bankruptcies, etc., will be investigated to determine a candidate’s suitability for employment.

    4. Personal State or Federal tax liability or delinquent student or government loans unless the applicant is on an approved payment plan.

    5. No discharge for cause from a local, state, or national Civil Service or Merit System.

    6. If POST certified, must be in good standing.

    7. If military discharge is other than Honorable or Medical, an explanation should be attached.

    8. Any medical, physical or mental condition, which would prevent an applicant from satisfactorily performing assigned duties or complying with regulations of the Georgia P.O.S.T. Council.

    9. Applicants with tattoos, body art, branding or body modifications may be required to remove piercings or body modifiers and cover/conceal tattoos that are offensive or inappropriate. Items considered offensive and prohibited will include, but are not limited to those that are obscene, sexually explicit, profane, discriminatory, advocate or symbolize affiliation with gangs, extremist groups, or supremacist groups or advocate illegal drug use.

    Drug Use / Possession / Sales - The following drug use will disqualify an applicant if discovered during review of the application packet, background investigation or polygraph/voice stress examination:

    1. Current illegal drug use.

    2. Any use or possession of marijuana that suggests more than experimental usage (no time limit).

    3. Established pattern of use/abuse of prescription drug or legally obtainable substance in a manner for which it was not intended.

    4. Illegal sale, distribution, or manufacture (to include growing) of any drug.

    5. Use of an illegal drug or combination of illegal drugs, other than marijuana, during the past 5 years.

    6. No lifetime use of LSD, Acid or Heroin.

    7. Non-prescribed anabolic steroid use within the past 18 months.

    Applicant criminal history must not contain:

    1. Any felony convictions. This includes cases falling under the First Offender Act and expunged/sealed cases. Pleas of nolo contendere are considered a conviction.

    2. Sufficient misdemeanor convictions to establish a pattern for disregard of the law.

    3. Any outstanding criminal charge pending adjudication and completion of any sentence or probation.

    4. Ongoing criminal activity or history of criminal activity, other than minor traffic offenses.

    5. Admission to or discovery of an applicant's involvement in any crime of a serious or aggravated nature.

    6. Convictions for misdemeanor of an aggravated nature, public order, decency or moral turpitude. Pleas of nolo contendere are considered a conviction.

    7. Convictions for offenses involving the Family Violence Act as defined in O.C.G.A. 19-13-1, to include no active Temporary Protective Orders (TPO) or Protective Orders/Restraining Orders.
  20. Driver History Must Not Contain:

    1. Any conviction or plea of nolo contendere within the past five (5) years for DUI of Drugs or Alcohol or for any serious traffic offense, including, but not limited to: Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Vehicular Homicide, Failure to Stop, Render Aid or Leave Information, Reckless Driving, and Racing.

    2. Three (3) or more convictions and/or pleas of nolo contendere within the past two (2) years for any moving violation.
