Most parents understand the hustle and bustle that comes with youth activities: driving the kids to practices and games, juggling homework and finding time in between all the chaos to scarf down some food. And that’s just a Tuesday.
But most of us may not always see what’s happening on the periphery of this chaos, including the work done by Hall County Parks & Leisure maintenance crews, who make sure the baseball, softball and other athletic fields are prepped and ready to go for our young athletes once they arrive – a rare moment when the busy parents don’t have to shoulder the workload.
Such was the case one Saturday in early June, when Russell Souter brought his daughter to North Hall Park for a softball tournament. He noticed a one-man crew handling all the work, from prepping and lining the four softball fields to cleaning the bathrooms, and everything in between.
Watch the video below to meet Dereck Wilson, Hall County Parks & Leisure maintenance worker, to hear how his love for Hall County and dedication to his work keep him busy from sun-up to sun-down, and the impact is has on the visitors to Hall County parks.
