TAVT rate increases with new year

This is a reminder to citizens that the Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT) fee rate has increased from 6.75 percent in 2014 to 7 percent in 2015, in accordance with state law that went into effect in 2013, changing the system by which motor vehicles are taxed. The 2016 rate has yet to be determined by the Commissioner for the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Important and time sensitive reminders:

Vehicles purchased Jan. 1, 2015 forward will be charged the 7 percent TAVT.
Vehicles purchased on or prior to Dec. 31, 2014 will be charged the 6.75 percent TAVT.
TAVT is applicable to all sales and title changes. TAVT is based on the fair market value of the vehicle as determined by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
New residents to Georgia are subject to TAVT based on the fair market value of the vehicle. A title tax calculator is available on our website tax.hallcounty.org or on https://etax.dor.ga.gov/.
Vehicles purchased after Feb. 28, 2013 are automatically in the TAVT system. TAVT is based on the vehicle's retail price or fair market value, whichever is greater.
Vehicles purchased prior to Jan. 1, 2012 will stay on the annual ad valorem system (birthday system).

2014 customer service initiatives to support YOU:

Cross-training of employees has enabled all clerks to assist residents with property and motor vehicle needs.
An information desk and attendant are located at the entrance to our lobby, ensuring residents have all the paperwork needed for their visit, providing necessary forms and answering questions prior to processing transactions efficiently and effectively at the window.
A communication center is staffed with well-trained employees to answer phone and email inquiries.
Spanish versions of property tax statements are available online at tax.hallcounty.org.
Secure drop boxes are located at our office (inside and outside), and online payment options for property tax and motor vehicle renewals are also available.
The Hall County Tax Commissioner's Office now has a presence on Facebook (Hall County Tax Commissioner) and Twitter @taxhallcounty for sensitive issues, updates, reminders, and lobby service times.
