This is a reminder to citizens that the Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT) fee rate has increased from 6.75 percent in 2014 to 7 percent in 2015, in accordance with state law that went into effect in 2013, changing the system by which motor vehicles are taxed. The 2016 rate has yet to be determined by the Commissioner for the Georgia Department of Revenue.
Important and time sensitive reminders:
Vehicles purchased Jan. 1, 2015 forward will be charged the 7 percent TAVT.
Vehicles purchased on or prior to Dec. 31, 2014 will be charged the 6.75 percent TAVT.
TAVT is applicable to all sales and title changes. TAVT is based on the fair market value of the vehicle as determined by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
New residents to Georgia are subject to TAVT based on the fair market value of the vehicle. A title tax calculator is available on our website tax.hallcounty.org or on https://etax.dor.ga.gov/.
Vehicles purchased after Feb. 28, 2013 are automatically in the TAVT system. TAVT is based on the vehicle's retail price or fair market value, whichever is greater.
Vehicles purchased prior to Jan. 1, 2012 will stay on the annual ad valorem system (birthday system).
