The newly paved portion of the roundabout at Sardis Road and Ledan Extension opened to traffic Wednesday afternoon.
Hall County Engineer Kevin McInturff said crews will now begin construction on the inner portion of the roundabout, known as the mountable curb.
“We do expect to close the roundabout for two Saturdays sometime in the next month to complete that curbing work,” McInturff said. “That will be done on the weekend so as not to disrupt school traffic.”
Once the date of those closures is released, the public will be notified.
McInturff said temporary striping and signage is currently in place as well.
“We are encouraging motorists to treat this as a roundabout as it is no longer functional as a four-way stop,” he said.
The roundabout is expected to lessen congestion at the busy intersection and is part of a much larger project to eventually link Thompson Bridge Road/Ga. 60 and Dawsonville Highway/Ga. 53.
