Hall County is hosting the Georgia Court of Appeals as they conduct oral arguments at the Hall County Government Center on Sept. 27.
Presiding Judge Christopher J. McFadden, Judge Elizabeth L. Branch and Judge Charles J. Bethel will hear arguments in the Commission Meeting Room on the second floor of the facility beginning at 9:30 a.m.
“Hall County is honored to have been selected as the host for these proceedings,” Hall County Chief Superior Court Judge C. Andrew Fuller said. “Our hope is that this serves as an opportunity for area students and citizens to learn more about the role the appellate courts play within our justice system.”
The Georgia Court of Appeals is the intermediate appellate court in Georgia. It was established in 1906 and has fifteen judges who serve in five divisions. The Court of Appeals has statewide appellate jurisdiction of all cases except those involving constitutional questions, murder, and habeas corpus cases where original appellate jurisdiction lies with the Supreme Court. In addition, the Court of Appeals may certify legal questions to the Supreme Court.
The oral arguments to be heard on Sept. 27 are open to the public. The Hall County Government Center is located at 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville. All members of the public are encouraged to attend.
