The intersection at Sardis Road and Ledan Extension will remain open as a roundabout is constructed in its place.
“After evaluating all options, we have worked with the contractor to make sure two lanes of traffic remain open throughout the construction project,” said Hall County District 2 Commissioner Billy Powell.
Construction was originally scheduled to begin as school adjourned for the summer and reopen before Aug. 7 but right of way issues delayed the project. Seabolt Road, Elrod Drive, Ladd Drive and Brackett Drive were to serve as alternate routes.
“The contractor has assured us that if, at any time, a lane closure is required, it will only occur between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as to not interfere with school traffic,” said Powell.
The roundabout is expected to lessen congestion at the busy intersection and is part of a much larger project to eventually link Thompson Bridge Road/Ga. 60 and Dawsonville Highway/Ga. 53.
