This is to advise that there were two recent reports of contact between a rabid skunk and a dog in Hall County. The first occurred in the 3200 block of Baker Road in Gainesville. The second incident was reported in the 5000 block of Latty Road in Lula. Both skunks were shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab- Virology Section in Decatur. Hall County Animal Control was advised Thursday that the skunks tested positive for rabies. This marks the first and second confirmed case of rabies in Hall County in 2017.
Positive alert signs will be posted in the areas where the rabid skunks were located. If you live in these areas and you see an animal acting abnormally, contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or during non-working hours call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.
Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1688 Barber Rd, Gainesville.
