Officials with Hall County Animal Control have arrested a Gainesville man for allegedly tying a dog to railroad tracks, leaving it to be hit and killed by an oncoming train.
Authorities responded to an area off White Sulphur Road last month after receiving a call about a dog on the tracks.
"There was evidence that the dog had been purposefully tied to the tracks, which ultimately led to his death," said Mike Ledford, director of Hall County Animal Services. "This was an egregious act of cruelty against a defenseless animal, and our department works tirelessly to hold those responsible for such acts accountable."
Gerardo Damian Rosas was arrested Dec. 1 and charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty.
No additional details regarding the case are available at this time as the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
