In cooperation with the Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR), Hall County Tax Commissioner Darla Eden is pleased to announce expanded services and online lookup availability for the Renewal Identification Number (RIN). A RIN is a 12-digit number necessary for online renewals. The RIN lookup will further promote and encourage the efficient process of online registration renewals for motor vehicles services.
"The new RIN retrieval option will allow taxpayers to query the DOR website for the RIN. Previously, if the taxpayer didn't have their renewal notice in hand, they had to call our office for their RIN to complete the online renewal as RIN numbers were treated as closed records," saidEden.
To obtain the RIN number online, visit the DOR website https://mvd.dor.ga.gov/tags/index.aspx and select "Obtain/Retrieve a RIN." Then, enter the plate number, name and address. The RIN will automatically populate in the renewal program to continue the renewal process.
Eden also reminds taxpayers that her office offers five ways to renew motor vehicle registrations. Taxpayers may renew online at tax.hallcounty.org. Or, for those who wish to pay in person, renewals can be processed by members of the Tax Commissioner's staff on the first floor of the Hall County Government Center. An outside drop box is located at the front door entrance to the government center for after-hour payment. A payment box is also located near the information table in the lobby of the Tax Commissioner's Office for those who do not wish to wait during regular business hours. As always, taxpayers may renew by mail. And finally, taxpayers may utilize the newest innovation in tag renewals - the self-service renewal kiosk at North Hall Community Center on Nopone Road. The kiosk is available during the community center's regular operating hours, including nights and weekends.
Those who wish to pay by check, debit or credit are encouraged to use either of the drop boxes for both motor vehicle renewals and property tax payments or to use the online service. The kiosk accepts Mastercard/Visa/American Express. The machine will process up to 10 renewals for just $3 plus a 2 percent bank fee for use of a debit/credit card. (A 2.59 percent bank fee will be added to all debit/credit payments when used at the office or online).
