UPDATE, JAN. 17, 2023
Claude Parks Road has reopened to traffic.
ORIGINAL RELEASE:
Repairs to Claude Parks Road are underway after a washout at the road’s intersection with Jake Kemp Road closed the road in early September. Crews are currently constructing a concrete box culvert at the site of the washout and the project is on schedule to be completed in December.
“The concrete culvert will offer a permanent solution and is also in line with the county’s pipes replacement program,” said Srikanth Yamala, Hall County Public Works and Utilities Director.
In 2015, after flooding damaged many county roads where these corrugated metal pipe culverts existed, the Board of Commissioners passed a resolution to prevent these issues from continuing and required all underground road structures to be made of concrete or high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe on county roads.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience with this project, as the outcome will be longer lasting and safer roads for all of our residents and visitors,” said Yamala.
Motorists are advised to continue taking Jake Kemp or Wade Whelchel roads to Ben Parks Road as a detour. Detour signs have been placed in the area, and a map of the detour route has been added to the homepage of the Hall County website, hallcounty.org.
