Cardiac Arrest & Automated External Defibrillators (AED)

PowerHeart AEDThe Facts

• Sudden Cardiac Arrest strikes 375,000 people in the United States every year
• That's 1,000 people per day or 1 person every 2 minutes
• Only 5-7% of Sudden Cardiac Arrest victims live, 95% die
• Chances of survival decrease 10% every minute
• Death occurs within minutes unless treated
• The only effective treatment for SCA is defibrillation
• Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are small, portable, and can be operated by anyone with minimal training

The Problem

• AEDs are not available in many locations
• Defibrillators are primarily carried only on Ambulances
• AEDs should be available to Firefighters, Police Officers, and the public at large

The Program

• Hall County Fire Services is actively soliciting donations to purchase AEDs that will be placed on all Fire Apparatus and Law Enforcement vehicles in Gainesville and Hall County
• Each AED costs approximately $3,000
• You can Adopt an AED today

The Goal

• To have a defibrillator on the scene of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest within 5 minutes of 911 notification
• To make Gainesville/Hall County the safest place in the U.S. to suffer a Sudden Cardiac Arrest
