There are currently three (3) bus routes within the City of Gainesville. Each bus makes approximately 30 stops per hour and follows a different route within the City of Gainesville that begins and ends at the Transfer Station at Pine / High Streets in Gainesville. Some routes overlap, so more than one bus may stop at your bus stop. If you are unsure of how to reach your destination, ask your Bus Operators for assistance. They're always glad to help.

The Red Rabbit bus service is available, within the City of Gainesville, Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Fares

The Red Rabbit one-way bus fare is $1.00 per trip and $.50 for seniors over 60, children to age 18, people carrying a Medicare card and students. All passengers are required to pay their fare when boarding. The Red Rabbit Bus Operators do not carry money or make change.

Transfers

When you need to change buses to reach your destination, the second half of your ride is always FREE. Just ask your first Bus Operator for your FREE BUS TRANSFER. If you're not sure which bus to transfer to, ask your original Bus Operator. FREE BUS TRANSFERS are issued when you pay the fare and are valid for 50 minutes after issue.

Safety

Your Bus Operator cannot drive until all passengers are safely seated or are standing while grasping a handhold, so please find a seat or a handhold as quickly as possible after boarding.

Please hold small children and fold strollers for the trip. Nothing can be left in the aisles. Please wait until the bus or van is safely stopped before you leave your seat. Operators, like all drivers, must sometimes stop quickly.

Hall Area Transit officials reserve the right to refuse service or remove anyone who jeopardizes the comfort and / or safety of other customers.

Food Guidelines

Eating, smoking and open drink containers are not allowed on the Red Rabbit buses. Bottled, lidded water containers may be carried.

Travel Tips
  • Arrive 3 - 5 minutes before the bus is scheduled to reach your stop.
  • Sometimes buses run late due to traffic congestion, so please be prepared to wait 5 - 10 minutes past the scheduled pick up time.
  • Buses will board riders at designated bus stops only, so look for the Red Rabbit signs at street corners.
  • Signal the operator that you want to get off the bus by pulling the yellow signal cord. Please give the Bus Operators enough notice so that they may stop smoothly.
  • Buses will only stop at bus stops to ensure safety. Remain seated or grasping a handhold until the bus comes to a complete stop.
  • Please reserve seating at the front of the bus for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. If the bus is full, politely offer your seat to those who are unable to stand while the bus is moving.
  • Service dogs for the hearing and visually impaired are allowed on the bus. They are not pets - please do not attempt to approach or pet them.
  • Radios must be listened to through earphones only.
  • During inclement weather, the buses may not be able to stay on their regular schedule. Please call 770-503-3333 for more information.
  • Not all bus stops will be on the side of the street that you need. Please use care and exercise caution while crossing streets.
  • NOTE: ROUTE TIMES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. FOR CURRENT INFORMATION CALL 770-503-3333.
