The Office of Professional Standards is directed by Lieutenant Tammy Crawford. The Hall County Sheriff's Office has met the requirements of a highly regarded and broadly recognized body of law enforcement standards. The department received State Certification in July, 2003 through the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. In March, 2005 the department was awarded International Law Enforcement Accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. State Certification and International Accreditation acknowledges the implementation of policies and procedures that are conceptually sound, operationally effective and represents the satisfactory completion of a process of thorough, agency wide self-evaluation, concluded by an exacting outside review by a team of independent assessors. Certification/Accreditation provides a method for members of our community to gauge our organization's professionalism using internationally and state recognized standards.
One of the most significant benefits of the Certification/Accreditation is the reduction of the number of lawsuits and the reduced severity of civil litigation. It also represents the Hall County Sheriff's Office acceptance of the obligation to continue the quest for professional excellence. Accreditation/Certification is awarded for a period of three (3) years and requires a continuing commitment from the accredited agency. Additionally, The Office of Professional Standards is responsible for the Department's Written Directive System. For more information on the Certification/Accreditation process, contact Georgia Chiefs of Police www.gachiefs.com and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., www.calea.org.

The Hall County Sheriff's reserve program, directed by Captain Harry Chapman, was initiated to take advantage of an existing pool of retired law enforcement officers and officers who had moved on to careers in the private sector, but who also still possess a strong desire to continue serving while maintaining their law enforcement training and certifications.
This program is based strictly upon volunteerism, and the only associated cost is that of issuing each officer his or her basic equipment. These experienced men and women volunteer their time to work on major events such as parades, sporting events, and other functions requiring a large law enforcement presence, thus allowing full time officers to continue their regular duties, while saving the taxpayers of Hall County all salary expenses. In addition, much of the marine patrol activities on Lake Lanier are handled by these reserve Deputies.

These officers have performed duties in various divisions of the Sheriff's office and have saved the taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars in salaries and overtime, and the experience that they bring to the department is invaluable.
