Members of the Gainesville-Northeastern Circuit Bar Circuit will mark Independence Day by reading aloud the Declaration of Independence at Kenyon Plaza on Tuesday, July 3.
In a first for the local bar, lawyers who work in criminal and civil law, including defense attorneys, prosecutors, judges, law clerks and others, will take turns reading from the sacred American document.
The reading begins at 11:30 in Kenyon Plaza, the public space outside the Hall County Courthouse, which is named in honor of the late Hall County Superior Court Judge A.R. Kenyon.
Public readings of the Declaration of Independence began as a grass-roots effort by attorneys across the country several years ago. This is the first time the Gainesville-Northeastern Circuit Bar Association has participated.
