The Hall County Board of Commissioners has approved an increase in ambulance fees, which will bring in additional revenue from insurance while having little impact on patients.
Hall County ambulance fees have long fallen below the rates of surrounding counties and the Medicare allowance, according to Fire Chief David Kimbrell, who oversees Emergency Medical Services. To keep up with the increasing cost of equipment and supplies, the county raised those rates slightly last year to collect the maximum amount allowable for ambulance services by Medicare, Medicaid and insurance. The Board approved another slight increase on April 12 to reflect changes in insurance allowances.
This change will not significantly impact patients, who generally only pay about 6 percent of the total ambulance bill.
