Since 1997, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Christmas Bicycle Program has been instrumental in helping families in need provide a great Christmas gift to kids who might not otherwise be able to enjoy the holiday as much as some children.
Eligible families for the program are located through various means such as local churches, schools, Gateway House, CASA, Boys and Girls Club, Legacy Link, and the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes. Families are then contacted and offered the opportunity to participate in the program, and parents are given the option of having the bicycle delivered to their homes or making arrangements to pick up the bicycle from the courthouse.
Through the efforts of Deputies, businesses, charitable groups, and community members, the program garnered enough donations this year to provide for the purchase of 109 bicycles, benefitting 61 local families.
“This program is just one example of how the Hall County Sheriff’s Office demonstrates its commitment to our community,” said Sheriff Steve Cronic. “We believe that it’s important to be involved in more than just the business of law enforcement. Through good will and charitable efforts such as the Christmas Bicycle program, we show that we aren’t just the men and women charged with keeping the peace, but that we are also members of this community with genuine concern for our fellow citizens. We hope these bicycles will bring joy to a number of children this Christmas.”
