The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting of two horses in South Hall.
On November 23, 2011 Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2500 block of Webb Girth Road regarding a report of two horses being shot. Upon arrival, the owner advised Deputies that one horse had been shot through the shoulder area and one had been shot in the leg, by what he believed to be a single shot passing through the first horse and then striking the second.
Further investigation revealed that the owner heard a single shot the previous evening at approximately 6:00 PM, originating in the direction of his pasture. At the time he believed it to have been a deer hunter in nearby woods. The owner did not discover that his animals had been wounded until the following day. He added that he still believes the shot to have been made by a hunter, possibly mistaking the horses for deer since there was very little daylight left at that time of day.
A veterinarian responded to the scene at the request of the owner and after examining the animals, the decision was made to euthanize the horse that was shot in the leg.
The incident remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigations Division. Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to contact Investigators at 770-531-6879.
