Benefit Event for Hall County Sheriff’s Deputy 9/15/2011 Nonprofit Lanier Partners of North Georgia, Inc., in association with a local donor, will hold a raffle drawing to benefit the little girl of a Hall County Sheriff’s deputy. The prize is an Official NASCAR Hood from Turner Motorsports belonging to the #38 Great Clips car. Raffle tickets may be purchased for $20 online at www.lanierpartners.org or in person at The Tilted Kilt Restaurants. The proceeds of the raffle will benefit a Hall County Sheriff’s Deputy who has demonstrated not only excellence in the field and in serving Hall County, but whose family has faced one of life’s greatest challenges. Sheriff’s Deputy Joey Haban and his wife, Kristina, were expecting the birth of their daughter to be a joyous occasion. However, Katie Jo was born preterm at only 24 weeks and weighed a mere 15 ounces. Katie Jo has endured many surgeries and overcome many obstacles in her first year of life. She wasn’t expected to live and is only 1 of 12 babies born in the same period who survived. Katie Jo celebrated her first birthday in May! Through this entire process, Joey and his wife have endured many sleepless nights, trips to the hospital, and well over $1 million in medical expenses in saving their daughter’s life. In the process, they lost their family home due to these expenses, and Kristina had to resign her position with the Arcade Police Department to take care of Katie Jo full time. Joey works 12 hour shifts with the HCSO and takes as many part-time jobs as he can, in addition to laying tile and doing construction work – anything he can to help make ends meet for his family. The donor, Mr. Tom Petska, is a local resident on Lake Lanier in Hall County. He won the hood in a previous charity auction and is paying it forward again. Signatures on the Great Clips Racing Team are Jason Leffler, James Buescher, and Reed Sorenson. Hopefully the hood will also get signed by Kasey Kahne at the Labor Day Weekend Race at AMS. “I try to do something nice every year for someone or some group.
