Just after 2:00PM on Monday, April 4, 2011 the Hall County Sheriff's Office responded to call of a possible body in a creek between New Holland Mill and the railroad.
Upon arrival deputies discovered that a landscaping crew that was working on the Mill’s fence line had discovered the body of a white male in a shallow creek behind the Mill and near the railroad. The body was not on the Mill property but near their fence line.
The badly decomposed body was transported to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy was performed late Tuesday. The autopsy results were limited due to the state of decomposition of the body. It did reveal that the body was that of a white male. There were no signs of trauma to the body or any evidence of gunshot or stab wounds. No age or cause of death has been determined at this time.
The body was dressed in tan pants, a grey sweat shirt with a hood and white tennis shoes. The body also had several tattoos with the most identifiable being “white trash” on the front torso of the body and a tattoo of a woman on the left calf.
Investigators are now focused on attempting to identify the body. They will be looking into missing person reports from both the Hall County Sheriff's Office and the Gainesville Police Department. They will be conducting field interviews in areas frequented by the homeless near the railroad.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Criminal Investigation Division at 770-531-6879.
The incident remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigation Division.
