Deborah Mack - Commissioner District 4

Deborah K. Mack, elected in August 2002 to fill the late Frances Meadows' unexpired term for Hall County Board of Commissioners District 4, was elected to a second term in November 2004. She was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board in 2005, with the unanimous support of fellow Commissioners.

Ms. Mack attended EE Butler High School and received a B.S. from Spelman College. Prior to taking office, she was an elementary school teacher and also worked for the Georgia Department of Labor, now retired.

Ms. Mack has a wide range of community service experience: Hall County Jury Commission, Human Relations Council, Gateway House, Guest House, Boys and Girls Club, United Way, Light House Manor, High School VOCA, Delta Sigma Theta, Sunshine Organization and Northeast Georgia Health System.

As Commissioner, Ms. Mack has been an active member of the Parks & Leisure Services Board, the Georgia Mountains Community Services Board and the Court Systems’ Mental Health Advisory Board. She attained certification by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) in 2004 and advanced certification in April 2005. In October 2004, Ms. Mack completed the ACCG Academy for Leadership, a four-day program designed to specifically address the leadership role of county commissioners in Georgia. In addition, her emphasis on improving customer service has prompted advances in county sponsored training and development courses.

Among her accomplishments, Ms. Mack has worked tirelessly with community leaders and county officials to improve her district. She spearheaded efforts to attain funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for improvements in Gainesville’s Black and Cooley Drive area. In August 2005, Gov. Sonny Perdue announced that Hall County was awarded more than $1.09 million for rehabilitation and down-payment assistance to help low- and moderate-income residents secure safe and affordable housing. The award was the single largest of 77 community grants in Georgia’s 2006 allocation totaling $37.3 million.
