Q: "Does the Department fill swimming pools for people?"
A: No. Individuals can fill their pools with hydrant water by calling the City Public Utilities Department and requesting a meter (payment is assessed for using the water) for the hydrant and by renting a hose from a retail rental store.
Q: "Can the public schedule a birthday party at the station?"
A: No. We discourage the public from having parties at the stations (for safety and security reasons) and encourage them to incorporate a tour of the station with their private party at home.
Q: "How do I get a fire plan review?"
A: Contact the Fire Marshal's Office at 770-531-6838. Most plans review are done through the Gainesville/Hall County development services. Buford, Oakwood, Clermont, and Flowery Branch plans are submitted directly to this office. You need to submit three sets of plans and fill out an application form.

A: Call the Fire Marshal's Office at 770-531-6838.
Q: "What is my fire insurance rating?"
A: Most areas of Hall County have an ISO rating of 5. If you have additional questions, call the administrative office at 770-531-6838, or check our public GIS Map Viewer options.
Q: "How do I get a copy of a fire or medic report?"
A: For fire reports, call 770-531-6838. Provide address, date and time if known of incident. For medic reports, call 770-531-6834. Provide address, date, and time if known and name of patient(s). All medic reports must have a consent release signed prior to obtaining the report. Usually, reports can be made available within 24 hours after your request.
Q: "Who do I call if I think a building is a fire hazard?"
A: Our Fire Prevention Bureau will answer your questions at 770-531-6838. You need to provide the address of the building and the owner or manager's name, if you have it. You also need to provide your name and contact phone number. Once the investigation is complete, your name will become part of the public information file on the building.
Q: "Where is the nearest fire station?"
A: Call 770-531-6838, and we can tell you where the closest fire station is.
Q: "Where is the nearest fire hydrant?"
A: You need to drive your neighborhood and determine where your closest hydrant is, since new hydrants are installed through out the year.
Q: "Can a patient choose the hospital he or she wants to go to?"
A: If it is a non-critical situation, yes. If it is a critical situation, Med Unit personnel will consult with the physician via radio, and may choose to transport to the closest or most appropriate hospital.
Q: "Why does the fire engine go out on medical calls?"
A: To ensure quick response and adequate assistance on all emergency scenes.
Q: "How much does the County charge for people transported by a Med Unit to the hospital?"
A: Rates vary and depend on the amount and type of care rendered. Please call the billing office if you have specific questions and ask the EMS Coordinator at 770-531-6835.

A: Yes. From October 1st through April 30th. Individuals should call the Fire Marshal's Burn Permit information line at 770-536-2442 for open burning information. Land clearing operations require a different permit, and can be obtained by calling 770-531-6838.
