Automated External Defibrillators (AED) Program

What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)?
A sudden condition in which the heart unexpectedly and abruptly stops beating. Usually caused by Ventricular Fibrillation, a lethal heart rhythm in which the heart “shorts out” and fails to pump blood.

The Facts:
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest strikes 250,000-350,000 people in the United States every year.
  • Only 5-7% of Sudden Cardiac Arrest victims live, 95% die.
  • Chances of survival decrease 10% every minute.
  • Death occurs within minutes unless treated.
  • The only effective treatment for SCA is defibrillation.
  • Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are small, portable, and can be operated by anyone with minimal training.

The Problem:
  • AEDs are not available in many locations.
  • Defibrillators are primarily carried only on Ambulances.
  • AEDs should be available to Firefighters, Police Officers, and the Public at large.

The Program:
  • Hall County Fire Services is actively soliciting donations to purchase AEDs that will be placed on all Fire Apparatus and Law Enforcement vehicles in Gainesville and Hall County.
  • Each AED costs approximately $3000.00
  • You can Adopt an AED today!

The Goal:
  • To have a defibrillator on the scene of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest within five (5) minutes of 911 notification.
  • To make Gainesville/Hall County, Georgia the safest place in the U.S. to suffer a Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

You CAN make a difference!

Businesses, Industry, and Individuals have an opportunity to help make a difference. If you, or your organization can help with funding this effort, please contact the Hall County Fire Service office at 770-531-6838.
