Founded in 1913 by Miss Bessie Bickers, a Hall County school teacher, the Humane Society of Hall County is one of the oldest in the state.
Humane Society of Hall county is located at 845 West Ridge RD in Gainesville GA. There are 65 indoor runs and a separate room for cats, kittens and small dogs and puppies. On average the Humane Society can house approximately 150 animals. Over 10,000 dogs, cats and other animals are brought to the Society's shelter each year. Our staff is on duty 365 days a year. No animal is turned away because there is no room or because it's owner cannot afford to leave a donation. If we cannot place an animal it is euthanized by intravenous injection. The fact that euthanasia remains necessary is the driving force behind the Society's hard-line policies regarding sterilization and responsible pet ownership.
The Humane Society is a private organization, which contracts with Hall County to provide office space for animal control officers, vehicles and equipment. The Humane Society houses all stray animals picked up by the public and Animal Control. The Humane Society provides food, water, clean-up, record keeping, staff, drugs, cleaning supplies and final disposition.
