Animal Services & Shelter

Our Mission: Helping pets, helping people

Animal Services strives to ensure the safety of all Hall County residents, big and small. Officers keep people safe by answering calls related to loose, uncontrolled or dangerous domestic animals. And they keep animals safe by providing them a temporary home at the Hall County Animal Shelter, adoption assistance, and certain medical services including spay/neuter. Officers also protect pets by investigating animal neglect and cruelty cases.

Rescue Shelter

Facility Facts
Our 13,000-square-foot facility opened October 2009 and is located at 1688 Barber Road. The full-service shelter offers adoption events, rabies clinics, educational programs and volunteer opportunities. The shelter has 90 dog kennels and 204 cat/puppy cages that can comfortably house the 8,000 animals Hall County Animal Services sees each year. The new building was built using $2 million in funding from SPLOST VI, a one-cent sales tax approved by voters.

Adoptions
We have many healthy, loving animals that need a caring family. Visit our adoption pages to find a new companion. Our adoption fee is $65, which is comparatively low and covers the cost of spaying/neutering, microchipping, vaccinations, deworming and a combo test for cats. Every pet that leaves the shelter is spayed or neutered, which is the best way to reduce the population of homeless animals. Livestock may also be adopted at the shelter when available, and the fee is based on the actual costs incurred by Animal Services.

Cats Dogs

Services
Our shelter offers adoptions ($65 for dogs and cats), rabies vaccinations ($10), rabies clinics, and microchip insertion and registration ($20).

Staffing
A full-time veterinarian and adoption specialist care for animals at the shelter. Supervisor Mike Ledford's staff of six animal control officers and an administrative secretary also have offices at the shelter. There is also a Program Coordinator whose role is to organize events to benefit both the shelter and the community and also to give volunteers the guidance they need while helping out.

Veterinarian Dr. Meghan Seabolt provides full-time, on-site medical supervision and treatment for all animal needs. Dr. Seabolt graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia, Athens.

Adoption Specialist Gwen Trimmer has years of experience in animal rescue in Hall County. She manages the adoption program, works with rescue organizations and foster homes, and is a constant advocate for the animals at the shelter.

Program Coordinator Shannon Hunt has a background of building Community Programs, Public Speaking and Fundraising for Rescue. She is on staff at the shelter and will be organizing events, bulding new programs to benefit the shelter and the community, and working with volunteers. Please call Shannon at 678-450-1587 to participate.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are needed to help walk the dogs, play with the cats, and generally administer a dose of tender loving care. The interaction of volunteers with the shelter pets helps make the pets more adoptable and means so much to their mental and physical well-being.

Control & Enforcement

Purpose
Hall County's Animal Services enforces the County's Animal Services Ordinances and assists other county and state departments with ordinance enforcements and other animal related issues.

Staffing
The staff of six Animal Control Officers and one Supervisor addresses all issues related to bite cases, rabies control, potentially dangerous and dangerous animals, cruelty investigations, and loose or uncontrolled domesticated animals. Officers are on duty 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hall County E-911 Center dispatches calls after hours and an officer on call will respond when immediate assistance is required.

Animal Control Officers are much more than just dog catchers. They care deeply for the animals they rescue and many times will personally foster animals until they return to good health and are adopted.

Report a Problem
To report possible rabies contact, an animal bite, dangerous animal or other issue related to domesticated animals, contact Animal Services Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 770-531-6830. In a situation that requires immediate assistance, or during non-working hours, call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.
