Training & Professional Development
Skip Heflin, Assistant Chief of Operations, is responsible for the Operations and the Training & Professional Development divisions. The operations division commands and provides emergency services for over 25,000 calls for assistance annually and is the largest division in the department. The Training & Professional Development division plans, provides and oversees all training activities for the department to include: new hires (Fire and/or EMS), required annual continuing education (Fire, EMS, Haz Mat), special teams (SWAT Medic, GSAR, Haz Mat), EMS certification/recertification.

Skip is married to Cheryl Heflin, has 3 daughters and has been in the fire service for 27 years. He is an NREMT-P, founding member of the Georgia Search and Rescue Task Force 1 and has served as a Type 3 Incident Commander with the Georgia Incident Management Team.
